Our website
Construction
This website was built for us by Nine9 Design, of Bampton,
Oxford, and went live on 1 March 2011.
It's designed to make accessing the material on the site as easy
as possible - for our members and insurance clients, and for the
public generally, for whom the site is a source of background
information about private roads and the rights and obligations to
which they are subject.
The site now has a content management system (or "CMS") which
means that it will be much easier for us to extend and update the
material on the site.
The site doesn't carry advertising, but we will be happy to add,
by agreement, links to other sites as appropriate.
If you have any comments on the site, or have difficulty using
it, please let us know - you can use the form in the panel on the
right to do so.
Navigation
Navigation of our website is largely intuitive, and most users
will swiftly become familiar with it. But for the record we
offer the following summary!
At the very top of the screen is a narrow black panel. On
the left, starting with the words "You are here", is an indication
of where you are in the website. This feature is known in IT
circles as "breadcrumbs". If, for example, you are looking at
our page on Buying a house in a private road, you
can click in the breadcrumbs to go back to our About
us page.
On the right, in the narrow black panel, is the date; and
members and insurance clients can click in this panel where
indicated to log in or out. When you are logged in, your
email address will be shown here.
Underneath our logo, in the dark green strip, are the main menu
headings. When you cick on one, you will be taken to the
appropriate page, and you will see on the left of the screen that
the main headings are repeated, with the sub-headings for the page
you are on. When you click on a new main heading, you will see the
sub-headings for that page.
At the bottom of the page is a broad black panel, again
with the main menu headings. Sitemap takes
you to a page where you can see all the menu headings and
sub-headings. There is also Registration,
and Library. Associations who are members,
and/or use our insurance scheme, can register a name and password,
so that they can access our members' and/or insurance pages, which
will be found in the Library. Just let us know when you are ready,
and we will send a 5-digit code which will enable you to register
on our Registration page.
Once registered (you only need to register once) you will be
able to log in and access our members' and/or insurance pages, as
appropriate. Log in by clicking in the very top right of our
home page, in the narrow black panel. When you are logged in
you will see that on all pages apart from our Home page the menu on
the left of the screen has a new item at the bottom, namely
Library, with sub-headings of Insurance
pages and Members' pages. You will be
able to access either or both of these sets of pages, as
appropriate.
Once you've registered, clicking on Library in
the black panel at the bottom of the screen will also take you to
the log in page.
